I have always been a fan of breakfast foods in general, but not necessarily at breakfast time. When I was a kid, my mom always made me sit down and eat breakfast when I woke up. It wasn't anything fancy, just cereal or toast, but I would have to eat something first thing in the morning or mom would just freak out. I think that's partially an Italian thing.
In my teenage years, breakfast was a Mountain Dew and maybe a doughnut or candybar. When mom didn't control my breakfast anymore, I didn't like to eat until I had been up for at least a couple of hours. Mountain Dew was the "breakfast of champions" for teenagers in the late 80's and early 90's.
As for eating breakfast in my 20's.....I didn't! I was lucky to wake up in time to shower and dress before work, let alone eat breakfast. I would get a cup of coffee as soon as I got to the office and hopefully someone brought in doughnuts.
If I did eat a breakfast, it was at the 24 hr family restaurant at 1:00 am after the bars closed.
In my 30's, I went from being a 9-5 office manager to being an all hours tile setter and business owner. Minimal physical labor job to maximum physical labor job made me go back to having breakfast.
If I didn't eat a decent breakfast with juice before work, I didn't have enough strength to do my job.
Now in starting my 40's, my breakfast habits have changed again. When you're a work at home mom you would think that I would just eat whatever I want anytime of the day. Nope! After getting Rachel on the bus I tend to start multi-tasking and get all caught up.. Before I know it I just have to stop whatever I'm doing and eat because my tummy says so with growing hunger pains.
Lately I have been into eggs and bacon is always good. If I'm in a big hurry I like apple cinnamon muffins. And, of course, coffee or this mama won't get very far.
Tell me about your breakfast habits. What's your favorite breakfast food? Whatever you had this morning, I hope it was a start to a fabulous day!
