Changing Breakfast Habits

I have always been a fan of breakfast foods in general, but not necessarily at breakfast time.  When I was a kid, my mom always made me sit down and eat breakfast when I woke up.  It wasn't anything fancy, just cereal or toast, but I would have to eat something first thing in the morning or mom would just freak out.  I think that's partially an Italian thing.

In my teenage years, breakfast was a Mountain Dew and maybe a doughnut or candybar.  When mom didn't control my breakfast anymore,  I didn't like to eat until I had been up for at least a couple of hours.  Mountain Dew was the "breakfast of champions" for teenagers in the late 80's and early 90's.

coffee and doughnut

As for eating breakfast in my 20's.....I didn't!  I was lucky  to wake up in time to shower and dress before work, let alone eat breakfast.  I would get a cup of coffee as soon as I got to the office and hopefully someone brought in doughnuts.

If I did eat a breakfast, it was at the 24 hr family restaurant at 1:00 am after the bars closed.

Bacon & Cheese Omelet, Toast and Strawberries

In my 30's, I went from being a 9-5 office manager to being an all hours tile setter and business owner.  Minimal physical labor job to maximum physical labor job made me go back to having breakfast.

If I didn't eat a decent breakfast with juice before work, I didn't have enough strength to do my job.

Now in starting my 40's, my breakfast habits have changed again.  When you're a work at home mom you would think that I would just eat whatever I want anytime of the day.  Nope!  After getting Rachel on the bus I tend to start multi-tasking and get all caught up.. Before I know it I just have to stop whatever I'm doing and eat because my tummy says so with growing hunger pains.

Jiffy apple cinnamon muffins
Campfire Eggs and Coffee

Lately I have been into eggs and bacon is always good.  If I'm in a big hurry I like apple cinnamon muffins.  And, of course, coffee or this mama won't get very far.

Tell me about your breakfast habits. What's your favorite breakfast food?  Whatever you had this morning, I hope it was a start to a fabulous day!

I love your breakfast habits through the decades. It was like reading my breakfast autobiography until you hit the 40's. I have the opposite problem. I am starving in the morning and can't concentrate until I've eaten. I like protein for breakfast to carry my appetite to lunch so like you I love bacon and eggs! When I'm short on time though, greek yogurt with berries is my go-to breakfast.

I'm a major breakfast fan when it comes to bacon, eggs, english muffins, etc. I love eating breakfast in or out - anytime of day or night! Lol. :)

Great post! Since I've gotten older I have forced myself to eat a good breakfast everyday. I grab my coffee, eggs and bacon and enjoy. It's a great way to start my day indeed!

I would prefer to go out too Nicole. And I forgot about english muffins Rebecca. I love those with strawberry preserves.

I do love breakfast foods, but I usually eat them later in the day lol. I eat cereal for breakfast, but sometimes we have pancakes or eggs for dinner. I wish we could just all be like June Cleaver and make a big breakfast, but that's just so not realistic anymore!
